Alfred Eames Cellars is a premium, high-altitude winery situated in Colorado's West Elks AVA, one of the highest vineyards in North America. Founded by Alfred Eames, who was influenced by traditional European winemaking during his 17-year-old trip to Spain's Rioja region, the winery adapts old-world methods to the rugged terroir of the West Elks, producing bold wines with depth and a sense of place. The vineyard is located in the North Fork Valley, where Eames was one of the first to establish a vineyard. Alfred Eames Cellars partners with ZenZen Gardens as its official tasting room location, offering a unique and immersive wine-tasting experience amidst beautiful gardens. Visitors can enjoy wine tastings daily from May 1st to November 1st at ZenZen, which also offers accommodations and hosts various events throughout the summer. The winery's collection includes wines such as the 2020 Sangre del Sol, a proprietary blend of grape varieties anchored on Syrah; the 2023 Estate Pinot Noir, crafted from 100% Pinot Noir grapes grown at their vineyard; and the 2024 Carmena, made from the rare Carmine grape. The West Elks AVA's unique combination of high altitude, intense sunshine, and mineral-rich soils contributes to the production of intensely concentrated fruit with a distinctive sense of place.
