Carabella Vineyard is an Oregon winery known for its estate-grown Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris, sourced exclusively from their Parrett Mountain vineyard. Winemaker Mike Hallock's minimalist philosophy focuses on the elegance and complexity inherent in the volcanic soils of the region. The winery was founded by Mike Hallock, a geologist-turned-winemaker, who began producing wine in 1998 after training as a winemaker in Colorado. Carabella Vineyard has been sustainably farmed since its inception in 1996, with certification from LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology) and membership in the Deep Roots Coalition, an organization dedicated to sustainable viticulture without irrigation. The vineyard is transitioning towards native grasses and encouraging local wildflowers, while also using bluebird nesting boxes to control pests. Carabella's Pinot Noir is made with seven different clonal blocks fermented separately, then blended prior to bottling to showcase the complex potential of the vineyard. Their Dijon Clone Chardonnay is produced in a Burgundian style with minimal oak, resulting in a silky texture and crisp minerality. The winery offers a tasting experience through their Book Tour & Tasting program, allowing visitors to walk through the vineyard and learn about Carabella's unique approach to winemaking.
