Château L’Hospital

Château de L'Hospital is a historic estate located in the north of Portets, with roots dating back to the 17th century. Originally built as a country house for the Sautadères family, it was later acquired by Jacques de L'Hospital through his marriage to Jeanne Cambon, and the château was constructed between 1787 and 1789 under the guidance of renowned architect Victor Louis. The estate has changed hands several times over the centuries, with notable ownership periods including the Lacaussade family, who oversaw its classification as a Historic Monument in 1973, and the Battistella family, who acquired it in 2012 and undertook a five-year restoration project to revive its former glory. Today, Château de L'Hospital produces a range of wines, including Graves Rouge, Graves Blanc, La Dame de L'Hospital, and Rosé Façon L'Hospital, among others, with blends such as the Graves Rouge featuring 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet-Sauvignon, and 10% Malbec. The estate's location in the Graves region allows for a unique terroir-driven approach to winemaking, while its rich history and architectural heritage make it a distinctive destination for wine enthusiasts.
