Childress Vineyards

Childress Vineyards opened in 2004 in Lexington, North Carolina, when NASCAR team owner Richard Childress established a winery less than five miles from his racing operations. The property sits at the gateway to the Yadkin Valley AVA, the state's first federally designated grape-growing region. The estate now farms more than 70 acres across two sites: Richard's Hampton Road Estate in Davidson County and Vineyard Crossing at the winery. The vineyards grow 15 varieties of European Vitis vinifera in gravelly red clay soil under a humid climate with a long growing season, producing a portfolio of more than 30 wines. Visitors can taste through several options. Self-guided Wine Flights are available at the lobby bar, while the Champion Tasting offers a selection of house and varietal wines. The seated Luxe Tasting takes place in the Victory Lounge and includes a list of select red and white wines with guidance from a Wine Specialist. The tasting room has been named one of America's top 25 by Wine Enthusiast, and the on-site bistro has appeared on OpenTable's Top 100 Scenic Restaurants list.
