Cypress Bend Vineyards

Cypress Bend Vineyards opened in Wagram, North Carolina in June 2005 on Riverton, a farm that has been in Dan Smith's family since 1807. Dan and Tina Smith returned to the ancestral land in 2002 and spent four years cultivating muscadine grapes before opening to the public. The vineyard sits along the Lumber River in the coastal plain, bordered by cypress trees. The winery grows thirty-five acres of muscadine cultivars Carlos, Noble and Magnolia, producing eighteen muscadine table wines that range from dry to sweet, along with Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Winemaker Nadia Hetzel has won the North Carolina State Fair Best in Show trophy five times. Visitors can taste at the bar, browse the retail boutique, relax on the patio with cheese, and stroll through the vines. Complimentary wine tours are offered with tastings. Every other Friday evening, the vineyard hosts Jazzy Fridays with live music and dancing under a tent. The property also hosts weddings, rehearsal dinners and corporate events.
