Flynt Aero Vineyards & Winery

Flynt Aero Vineyards & Winery is based in Plains, Montana, between the Coeur d'Alene and Cabinet Mountains above the Lower Clark Fork river. The estate makes table wine, fruit wine, and hard cider, and has been trialing more than twenty grape varieties to find what best expresses Montana's growing conditions. Its plantings include vinifera such as Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Pinot Meunier, and Riesling; hybrids and natives including Catawba, La Acadie Blanc, and Chambourcin; and cold-climate varieties such as Itasca and Marquette. For cider, it grows apple and pear varieties like Dabinette, Kingston Black, and Hewe's Virginia crab. The winery follows sustainable viticulture and natural winemaking: cover cropping, compost, reduced tillage, integrated pest management, habitat corridors, renewable energy, and minimal cellar intervention with little to no fining, filtration, or additives. Tastings are by appointment, led by Amy, a WSET Diploma candidate, with Peter serving as grape grower and winemaker. The project began as a passion project and draws on Peter's background in organic farming and biochemistry.
