Hallcrest Vineyards

Hallcrest Vineyards, located in the Santa Cruz Mountains, is a historic winery with a rich past dating back to the 1880s when it was founded by the Hall family. The property was later purchased by Chaffee Hall in 1941, who planted the first vineyard and produced the winery's first vintage in 1946. Under his direction, Hallcrest became one of California's outstanding wineries, particularly known for its Cabernet Sauvignon and White Riesling. In 1987, John Schumacher and his family acquired the property, restoring the name "Hallcrest Vineyards" and continuing Chaffee's legacy of producing uncompromised quality wines from the Santa Cruz Mountains. Today, Hallcrest remains a family-owned operation, focusing on handcrafting small lots of premium wines that showcase the region's unique terroir. The winery is nestled in the quaint town of Felton, where visitors can enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a picnic and a bottle of wine on the deck overlooking the vineyards. The tasting room is open Thursday through Monday from 12-5pm, offering an opportunity to sample Hallcrest's organic wines, which were certified as the first organic winery in the country. With its picturesque setting and commitment to quality, Hallcrest Vineyards has become a benchmark for Cabernet Sauvignon and White Riesling production in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
