Hitching Post Wines, a Santa Barbara County-based winery, has been producing high-quality wines for over 40 years under the guidance of Frank Ostini and Gray Hartley. The winemaking duo's focus is on crafting intriguing, age-worthy Pinot Noirs that showcase the region's unique terroir. Their flagship wine, Highliner, is a blend of their finest Pinot Noir lots from various vineyards, including Sanford & Benedict, Fiddlestix, and Bien Nacido. The winery also produces other varietals such as barrel-fermented Dry Rose, Chenin Blanc, Syrah, and red blends. With Frank Ostini's expertise as Chef Winemaker since its inception, Hitching Post Wines is known for producing food-friendly wines with balance and finesse. The winery's history began in 1979 when Gray Hartley and Frank Ostini started making wines together in Frank's garage. Their passion for wine led them to discover the potential of Santa Barbara Pinot Noir, which became a staple of their portfolio. The release of Sideways in 2004 brought significant attention to Hitching Post Wines, with the film featuring their restaurant and winery prominently. Since then, the winery has gained popularity, and up to ten different Pinot Noirs are produced annually. The next generation of Hartleys, Emily (DTC Manager) and Weston (Winemaker), have joined the team, contributing to the winery's continued success. Visitors can experience Hitching Post Wines at their Tasting Room located next to the Hitching Post 2 Restaurant in Buellton, where they offer wine tastings and special events for Wine Club members.
