Torr Na Lochs

Torr Na Lochs Vineyard & Winery is the Texas Hill Country project of native Texans Blake and Karen DeBerry. The couple bought their 250-acre ranch in 2004 while living in Aberdeen, Scotland, and named it Torr Na Lochs, Gaelic for "Hill Over Lakes." The winery sits high above the Colorado River valley with views of Inks and Buchanan lakes. After clearing rocky granite outcroppings and preparing the land for two years, they planted three acres of Syrah, Malbec, and Petite Sirah in April 2014 and opened the tasting room in September 2015. The DeBerrys farm their elevated, decomposed-granite site sustainably, using compost and organic fish and seaweed fertilizers, ozonated water to reduce fungicide and pesticide use, soil-moisture sensors to limit irrigation, and solar-powered wells. All wines are made from 100% Texas-grown fruit. Visitors drive a half-mile granite gravel road past Texas longhorns and the vineyard to reach the tasting room and patio, where staff pour wines at the table. Groups of six or fewer do not need reservations; larger groups should call or email ahead.
