Modern Craft Wine

Modern Craft Wine is a Michigan producer built around the idea that wine should be mixed. Founder Tom Nixon, a bio systems engineer turned winemaker, started the project after tasting a homemade fruit wine at a bonfire and deciding to make wines he actually enjoyed drinking. He and Melissa Nixon opened the first Modern Craft winery and tasting room in Tom's hometown of Au Gres, Michigan, along the Lake Huron coast. The wines are fruit-forward blends made to be combined with spirits, stouts, beer, juices, and bar mixes. Offerings include Apple, a Riesling blended with Michigan Ida Red apples; Blackberry; and Northbound Red, a smooth red with a hint of spice. The lineup also includes cherry sangria and Cabin Cider. Modern Craft now operates tasting rooms in Au Gres, Standish inside Marigold Boutique, West Branch inside The Silver Lining Boutique, and Frankenmuth inside Bead Haven. Visitors can sample up to eight wines and purchase bottles to go. The wines are also shipped to most continental US states through VinoShipper.
