NightHawk Vineyard & Winery

NightHawk Vineyard & Winery is a small boutique farm winery in Paola, Kansas, in the heart of Miami County just outside Overland Park and Olathe. Don and Cathy moved from the city in 1994, built a straw-bale home from recycled materials and a neighbor's wheat straw, and planted their first grape vines by 2001. The vineyard now holds more than 3,600 plantings, and the winery has been producing commercially for 14 years. The estate-grown wines are hand-crafted on site and complemented by grapes from nearby small vineyards. The lineup spans dry whites such as Vignoles and Melody, dry reds including Chambourcin, Frontenac, Norton and Cabernet Sauvignon, plus off-dry blushes, sweet wines, bubblies and house-made sangria. The tasting experience takes place in a pastoral country setting with weekend live music, a food menu, an outdoor grain-bin bar, bocce, disc golf and a butterfly and native-grass prairie walk. Indoor event space seats 25 to 30, while the outdoor walnut grove can host up to 150.
