Obelisco Estate Winery, located in Apple Farm Village on the southwest slope of Red Mountain, is a small 30-acre estate vineyard known for its world-class red wines. Founded by Doug and Betsy Long, who brought their extensive wine industry experience to the region after leaving Napa Valley's Pritchard Hill, where they had planted grapes since 1971. The winery's name, Obelisco, is inspired by ancient Egyptian obelisks, which were carved from solid granite as monuments to protect and announce a civilization's presence. Similarly, Obelisco Estate's wines are crafted from the unique terroir of Red Mountain, where the long daylight hours, cool nights, and moderating effect of the Yakima River below create an ideal environment for growing intensely complex and elegant red wines with structure, acidity, and intense varietal character. The vineyard is one of the most densely planted in the Northwest, and its location allows for optimal sunlight exposure throughout the day. As a boutique winery, Obelisco Estate focuses on producing small batches of high-quality wines that showcase the best of Red Mountain's terroir.
