Obelisco Estate Winery (Warehouse District)

Obelisco Estate Winery is a small, 30-acre vineyard located on the southwest slope of Red Mountain in Washington State's Warehouse District. The estate is known for producing intensely complex, elegant, and rich red wines, particularly those from Bordeaux varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah. The winery's terroir is characterized by deep soil depths, ideal cumulative maturation time, and a unique combination of sunlight, cool nights, and the moderating effect of the Yakima River below, making it one of the most favorable growing conditions for Bordeaux varietals in North America. The winery was founded by Doug Long, who had previously planted grapes on Pritchard Hill in Napa Valley with his brothers in 1971. After moving to Washington State and discovering the exceptional terroir of Red Mountain, Doug and his wife Betsy started Obelisco Estate with a group of partners. Although they initially intended to "retire," their passion for winemaking led them to establish the estate vineyard and produce world-class wines. The name "Obelisco" is inspired by ancient Egyptian obelisks, which were carved from solid granite as symbols of protection and defense. Today, Betsy Long carries on her late husband's legacy as owner, committed to crafting exceptional wines that reflect the unique character of Red Mountain terroir.
