Ponzi Vineyards

Ponzi Vineyards is a pioneering winery located in the Laurelwood District of Oregon, which became America's first appellation defined by geology in 2020. Founded in 1970 by Dick Ponzi, who left his career designing rides for Disneyland to pursue his passion for wine, the estate has been instrumental in shaping the Oregon wine region. The winery is known for its focus on sustainable farming practices, earning LIVE Certification and CCOF Certified Organic status. Gravity-flow winemaking and native yeasts are employed to craft wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Laurelwood District, characterized by windblown loess over volcanic basalt soils at high elevation. Signature varietals include Pinot Noir, introduced in 1975 with the Abetina Vineyard planting, and Pinot Gris, first commercially produced in the United States in 1981. The winery has also been recognized for its innovative approach to winemaking, including collaborations with renowned chefs and musicians. Tastings are available daily from 10am to 5pm at the modern tasting room overlooking Avellana Vineyard and the Chehalem Mountains.
