Roots Wine Company

Roots Wine Company, a family-owned and operated winery, has been crafting terroir-driven wines since 2002. Winemaker Chris Berg's approach emphasizes the unique expression of the soil, climate, and geography in each wine. The winery produces approximately 5,000 cases annually, with a focus on Pinot Noir, including estate-grown and single-vineyard-designate bottlings. Other main varietals include Pinot Gris and Chardonnay, sourced from neighboring vineyards in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. The winery's reserve label, Racine, honors Chris' birthplace, while their second label, Klee, is inspired by the artist Paul Klee and accounts for 2,000 cases of production annually. Roots also produces a range of other wines, including sparkling and aged-in-barrel offerings, all made with premium fruit in small lots using indigenous yeasts. The winery's roots (pun intended) date back to 1999 when Chris' parents, Chuck and Dian Berg, planted seven acres of Pinot Noir on their 20-acre property near Yamhill. After the family business closed its doors in 2000, they transitioned to full-time winemaking, with Chris and his wife Hilary moving to the vineyard from Portland in 2001. Today, visitors can experience the tasting room at Roots Wine Company, located at 19320 N.E. Woodland Loop Road in Yamhill, Oregon. The winery's focus on sustainable methods and native fermentation has resulted in wines of finesse and complexity, earning them recognition as a top producer in the Willamette Valley.
