Rustic Roots Winery

Rustic Roots Winery sits on an 80-acre estate-style vineyard in Scandia, Minnesota, just north of Stillwater in the St. Croix Valley, with views over the St. Croix River Valley. Andrea and Greg Sandager, along with their son Howie, bought the 80-acre property in the summer of 2019, renovated the existing single-family home into a tasting room, moved the garage onto a new foundation to create the production facility, and planted the surrounding fields. They opened over Labor Day weekend in 2020 and added a wine pavilion in 2022. The winery makes its award-winning wines and hard seltzers on-site, primarily from estate-grown grapes including Frontenac Blanc, Frontenac Gris, La Crescent, Riesling, Marquette, and Grenache, supplemented with a small amount of out-of-state fruit. The tasting room pours wine by the flight, glass, or bottle, alongside hard seltzers, local beers, non-alcoholic drinks, and hard cider. Visitors can also order from a bistro menu and an Airstream grill on the lower patio, or join scheduled tours and tastings that walk through the vineyard and production facility.
