Ruth Lewandowski Wines

Ruth Lewandowski Wines is a natural-wine project founded in 2012 by Evan Lewandowski and based in Healdsburg, California. The winery takes its name from the Old Testament Book of Ruth, which Lewandowski cites as a touchstone for his view of nature's cycle of death and redemption: organic matter decomposes to feed new life, and successive yeast and bacteria strains rise and fall during spontaneous fermentation. Lewandowski's path to winemaking led through Alsace, where he worked at Domaine Christian Binner before launching his own label in Utah and later moving the operation to California. The wines are made from Mendocino County fruit farmed with soil health and balance in mind, using organic practices and minimal chemical inputs. In the cellar, fermentation proceeds with native yeasts and bacteria, and the wines are bottled without additives. Wine Enthusiast described the project as "the most unconventional winemaking operation in the US."
