Signal Ridge

Signal Ridge Vineyard is situated at an elevation of 2,742 feet within the Mendocino Ridge AVA, a unique American viticultural area known for its non-contiguous peaks rising above 1,200 feet. The estate, perched on Cold Spring Mountain, spans 100 acres with only 18 acres planted to vines. Signal Ridge is recognized as the highest-elevation vineyard in Mendocino, Sonoma, and Napa counties. Founded in 1999, the winery has established itself through its commitment to organic, regenerative viticulture and dry farming practices, resulting in resilient vines that thrive in the cool, coastal climate. The winemaker, Joanna Wells, employs a gentle touch in the cellar, using traditional techniques to allow for the ultimate expression of the estate. Grapes are hand-picked, sorted, and fermented in small oak and concrete vessels, promoting slow fermentation and preserving natural acidity. The Chardonnay is fermented in neutral French barriques and concrete eggs, while Pinot Noir grapes undergo co-fermentation with whole clusters to balance richness and enhance aromatic complexity. Wines are aged for 18 months before being bottled unfined with minimal SO2. Signal Ridge's wines, including its Mendocino Ridge Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, exemplify the estate's quality and legacy, characterized by beautifully fragrant, midweight profiles with impeccable balance.
