Stag Hollow Wines & Vineyard

Stag Hollow is a small family estate in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA of Oregon's northern Willamette Valley. Founded by Jill Zarnowitz and Mark Huff, the winery grew out of early experiments making wine from purchased grapes in a basement and a honeymoon bicycle tour through Italy's Piedmont and Spain's Rioja. In 1989 they bought a sheep farm on a ridge near Yamhill, built an octagon-shaped home overlooking the valley, and harvested their first estate grapes in 1994. The 34-acre vineyard is dry farmed on steep south-facing Willakenzie soils and planted at densities exceeding 3,000 vines per acre, with cover crops and limited chemical use. Pinot noir is the focus, with nine clones including five French Dijon selections, alongside chardonnay, muscat ottonel, early muscat, and experimental northern Italian varieties. A portion of the property is preserved as oak woodland and wetland habitat.
