Stonefield Cellars Winery

Stonefield Cellars Winery opened its tasting room in March 2006 in Stokesdale, North Carolina, just north of Greensboro. Founded by Robert and Natalie Wurz, the winery produces dry, semi-sweet, and sweet wines in a rural setting near the Piedmont Triad. Robert Wurz, president and winemaker, holds a Ph.D. in Wine Chemistry from the University of California, Davis, and began making wine at age fourteen. He teaches winemaking classes at the winery in spring and fall. While Stonefield maintains some vineyard on the property, most fruit and juice is sourced from outside growers, and all wines are produced on site from fermentation through bottling. The portfolio includes Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, proprietary red blends, and fruit-influenced sweet wines such as Peach/Grape and Blueberry/Grape. The tasting room is open Thursday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m., with the last tasting flight starting at 5 p.m. Guests can taste flights of seven wines indoors, under the gazebo or pavilion, or on the patio and upper garden. Reservations are recommended for larger groups and rainy days. The winery also hosts private events and runs a summer concert series, Friday Flavors, from June through September, plus indoor Barrel Room concerts during cooler months.
