Summit Lake Vineyards & Winery is a family-owned and operated winery located on Howell Mountain, with roots dating back over 50 years. Founded in 1971 by Bob and Sue Brakesman, the winery has been crafting distinctive, terroir-driven wines for five decades. The Brakesmans' story began when they met at Jordan Jr. High school in Palo Alto, California, and their passion for wine was sparked after experimenting with brewing beer and making wine from local grapes. After purchasing 28 acres of land on Howell Mountain, which included eight pre-prohibition Zinfandel vines, the couple restored the property to its former glory. Today, the winery is still family-owned and operated, with Brian Brakesman taking over as winemaker in 2009. He adheres to a simple philosophy: making the best possible wine from the fruit nature provides each vintage. Summit Lake Vineyards & Winery welcomes visitors to taste their wines and experience the beauty of Howell Mountain. The winery's tasting room offers a chance to become part of their story, with a Wine Club allowing members to customize their shipments to their personal taste.
