Sweetbriar Vineyard

Sweetbriar Winery, located in Mountain Home, Idaho, is owned and operated by Mike and Tamara Mackenthun. The couple, who retired from the Air Force to build their retirement home, became interested in winemaking after researching and visiting vineyards in California. They now cultivate 240 Vignoles, 180 Cabernet Franc, 100 Lemberger and Riesling, 80 Cabernet Sauvignon, and 80 Pinot Gris vines on their estate. Their wines include dry whites such as Vignoles ($20) and Pinot Grigio ($20), off-dry blends like Sweetbriar White ($18), semi-sweet reds like Semi-Sweet Vignoles ($18), and a port-style wine, Sweetbriar Port ($35). The winery's tasting room offers a relaxed environment where visitors can sample their wines, including a $5 glass option. Located 7 miles northeast of Mountain Home on US-20, the winery is situated near Historic Route 20, a major east-west route spanning from the Pacific Northwest to New England.
