The Ordinary Fellow

The Ordinary Fellow is a craft winery in downtown Palisade, Colorado, housed in the original United Fruit Growers peach packing shed. Founder and winemaker Ben Parsons, who studied enology at the University of Adelaide and arrived in Palisade in 2001, started the winery with Karo and Juan Adan as a return to vineyard-based winemaking after years of building Colorado's wine industry. The winery sources fruit from Box Bar Vineyard, a 13-acre site at 6,000 feet on the slopes of Sleeping Ute Mountain in Southwest Colorado, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Albariño, Syrah, Charbono, and Riesling, and from Montezuma Canyon Vineyard in Utah, planted in 2007 to Merlot, Riesling, Chardonnay, and Chenin Blanc. Both sites are farmed regeneratively without sprays or harmful chemicals, and the fruit is hand-tended and hand-picked. The winemaking approach favors small lots shaped by texture, time, and place. Visits range from a 45-minute Quick Sip tasting to a 90-minute Deep Dive tour and tasting, a 3-4 hour Long Linger with food on the patio, or longer full-day Palisade experiences. The tasting room is relaxed and welcoming, with a shaded patio, views of the Grand Mesa and Bookcliff Mountains, and the winemaking side visible from the tasting space.
