Velen Winery

Velen Winery, a family-operated vineyard and winery located in Zillah, Washington, was founded by John and Rebecca Otis as a tribute to their mothers, Vera and Helen. The couple met while working at Crossroads winery in Texas and later built a "forever home" there before falling in love with the Yakima Valley on a Valentine's Day weekend getaway. They planted their first vines in 2015, including Cabernet, Tempranillo, Syrah, and Merlot, and opened their tasting room in 2019. The winery is known for its estate-grown grapes and "Crafted by Nature - Perfected by Time" philosophy. John Otis serves as head winemaker and owner, while Rebecca manages the vineyard and is a UK native with a passion for winemaking. Dr. Andrew Sullivan assists as assistant winemaker, bringing his chemistry background to the table. Velen Winery offers wine club membership options, including Ambassador and Platinum levels, which provide benefits such as early access to pick-up parties, private events, and discounted shipping. The tasting room is open Friday through Sunday from noon to five PM, offering a chance for visitors to experience the winery's wines and atmosphere firsthand.
