Volker, who immigrated to the US from Germany in the early 1960s, was drawn to the unique terroir of Chiles Valley, with its steep hillsides, diverse plant life, and near-constant Pacific Ocean breezes. The estate is known for its organic farming practices, which were pioneering at the time, as Volker and Liesel chose to abstain from using chemicals in their vineyards.
